The
ministry of Religious Education encompasses the religious development and
formation of all of the children of St. Hugh's Parish Communion. Although our
largest area of concern is providing religious instruction for children
attending non-Catholic schools, we sponsor many events that are open to all
children and their parents.
Religious
Education Policy Statement
Catechists Needed:
Our religious education classes run from
the end of September until the end of April. We will need catechists
for all days and catechesis levels. In particular, we need catechists who are
willing to instruct children preparing for the sacraments of Holy Eucharist
and Confirmation.

Program Design
Our catechetical program is
designed to meet the needs of every child, with or without previous
catechesis. It is a seven-year program and children should be enrolled when
they begin the First Grade. Since many children are enrolled after the
First Grade with little or no catechesis, our program is divided into
catechesis levels rather than grades as follows:
- Communion 1
- Communion 2
- Christian Witness 1
- Christian Witness 2
- Christian Witness 3
- Confirmation 1
- Confirmation 2 (September through
January)
- Confirmation 3 (January through the
reception of the Sacrament)
Children entering our program after the First
Grade are placed in age appropriate catechesis levels and provided with
preparatory instruction and formation for Sacraments.
Classes
Program classes are held
both on site in the Parish
Center. On site
classes for all instructional levels meet as follows:
- Sunday 10:00 to 11:15 AM
- Monday: 4:15 to 5:30 PM
- Tuesday: 4:15 to 5:30 PM
- Wednesday: 4:15 to 5:30 PM
Catechists
Our catechists are
faith-filled persons from all walks of life. Many of them are parents with
children enrolled in our program. They have opened their hearts to share
their faith with the children of St. Hugh's Parish.
If you wish to volunteer to be a catechist in our program at any time during
the year, please contact the Religious Education Office for details.
Registration
Any family wishing to enroll
their children in our program must be registered members of St. Hugh of
Lincoln Parish. We require a copy of the child's Baptismal Certificate for
first time registrants. No child may enter class if we do not have a
parish number or a Baptismal Certificate.
